Look at the Existing Ceiling
Check whether the texture is painted or untreated, identify the substrate, note visible damage, room area and ceiling height, and understand the finish expected.
The work should follow the ceiling, not a rigid formula. Some surfaces need limited repair after removal. Others need broader preparation before they are ready for paint.

Check whether the texture is painted or untreated, identify the substrate, note visible damage, room area and ceiling height, and understand the finish expected.
Plan protection for floors, furniture and surfaces exposed to removal debris. Consider routes through the property and adjacent openings.
Use a method suited to the ceiling. Material that releases can be removed carefully; firmly bonded coating may be reduced before resurfacing.
Review taped seams, damaged paper, cracks, patches, fastener marks and other conditions that texture concealed.
Correct isolated defects individually or apply compound more broadly where the surface varies across larger areas.
Allow compound to dry, sand it with suitable dust control, and inspect the ceiling under useful lighting.
Apply primer to the prepared surface, check it again, and finish with ceiling paint when included in the scope.
Send room sizes, your location and a few photos if available. Knowing whether the texture has been painted is also useful.
