Can every popcorn ceiling be scraped?

No. Paint, adhesion, substrate and previous repairs can change how the texture responds. The method should be chosen after the ceiling is assessed.

Does painted popcorn have to be replaced?

Not automatically. Some material may be removed, while other ceilings are better reduced and resurfaced. The practical route depends on coating and substrate condition.

Does every ceiling need a full skim coat?

No. A sound surface may need localized repair only. Broader skim coating is useful when joints, patches or surface variation occur across larger areas.

Is the work dust-free?

No ceiling removal or drywall sanding should be described that way. Protection and dust-control equipment can reduce how debris and fine dust travel.

Can paint hide the repairs?

Paint creates a uniform colour, not a uniform plane. Compound edges, ridges and sanding marks should be corrected before primer and paint.

How is a project estimated?

Area matters, along with ceiling height, coating, substrate, access, room protection, repair, skim coating and the final finish included.

Can you tell if a popcorn ceiling contains asbestos by looking?

No. If age or material history creates concern, testing should be resolved before scraping or sanding.

Do condo projects work differently?

The ceiling may have a different substrate, and building access rules can affect scheduling. Owners should confirm applicable requirements with management.
